My sincere thanks to the officers and committee of the GBBA for inviting me to judge this show. Thank you to my stewards, Alice Martin & Julien Barney for keeping things running smoothly and on time throughout.
I was looking for a Griffon that, in my opinion, showed good balance, was cobby and had that distinctive ‘square with a circle’ outline, complemented by reach and drive on the move. The head, being essential to what makes a Griffon a Griffon, should have width and be large, yet still in balance with the rest of the dog. I wanted to find a good stop with a definite muzzle and wide nostrils sitting level with the eyes. I felt that my main winners were typical of this wonderful breed. It was excellent to see dogs with correct construction on the table that with continued training for more confident handling, will have the potential to truly shine on the move. I felt that the males, displayed more depth of quality than the females on the day

Baby Puppy Dog (4/0)
1st Donnellan & Roberts - Tsarvonn Late Night Party. BBPIS
A young puppy of smart balanced appearance. At this stage he is finer through than 2nd but with a lovely head, good stop and head shape, he was well made throughout. He won this class as he moved with confidence and precision for one so young. A very showy youngster, put down in excellent coat and condition. I thought him a very promising prospect and shall watch his development with much interest, litter brother to 1st in Baby Puppy bitch.
2nd Price & Burns - Aptrick Harry Beau.
A lovely head and overall a masculine expression with plenty of presence; however, he could not match 1st for rear end construction, which meant he stood 2nd today
3rd Blore - Movalian Ember Glow

Two very promising puppies, of good type and style
1st Donnellan - Tsarvonn Party On.
Lovely for size and well-made throughout, shown in good coat, with an overall square shape and typical feminine head, moved out well as her construction dictates, needing to mature in rear end but obviously has time on her side. Litter sister to winner of Baby puppy dog, what a lovely pair of pups to own/breed!
2nd Selby, Allen & Whitehead - Zilcan Smashed It (naf)
A very smart baby, not yet the confidence of 1st, but with a very pretty feminine head, she was shown in lovely coat and condition, she needs to tighten in front action but has time on her side. A very promising prospect!
3rd Price - Marquant Gambit

1st Meaden - Delightbull Tad The Man for Topmead
A very smart dog being full of himself today, shown in great coat and condition with a lovely head, well placed nose and good nostrils, masculine throughout, he did enough on the move, holding his topline and was an excellent showman.
2nd Rees - Aptrick Dolly Mixtures JW
Presented a balanced outline with a lovely feminine head having good width to jaw, coat well presented and of good texture.

1st Conway - Stormjac Spocktacular Nite
I was impressed by this dog as he did not look his 9.5 years, presenting a balanced and well-made outline which did not disappoint when handled on the table, deep in rib, correct forequarters and rear end, not making the best of himself when standing but a lovely type with excellent head with small ears, shown in good coat and condition.
2nd Rees - Aptrick Gateau Noir, of smaller type than 1st, a pleasant dog to go over and shown in good coat, a very happy Griffon much enjoying the day out

1st Price - Serperior for Marquant Semper Hilaris (Imp POL)
A young dog of handsome overall appearance, had good width to head and well placed ears, needs to tighten on the move. He presents a balanced outline but I would prefer more angulation at both ends. He was shown in good overall condition.
2nd Butler - Zilcan Space Cowboy with Kizzit
Of a more compact construction overall than 1st and carrying a little bit too much weight today, showed well and put on a sterling performance for his handler.

Two males who were very different in type
1st Krog - Dk / Nor I'm Your Man Unlimited
I found this dog so right for size and balance, he won this class on movement and having that real true square shape. He is pleasing in head, having a good turn-up and width, he showed with presence and was consistent throughout.
2nd Swinge - CH Harpersband Case In Point at Balthazar JW VW (Imp RUS)
A handsome Griffon that was well schooled and put on a sterling performance, he did not look like his almost 10 years. His coat was presented to enhance his qualities.

1st Conway - Cyril Cloister Atison's Legacy avec Stormjac (Imp CZE)
A very smart and balanced youngster, who was masculine throughout. I found him very well made with little I would want to change with his overall construction. He had a pleasing head, yet to fully develop but with nostrils well placed and enough width of jaw for age. He was shown in good coat and condition. One that held himself well on the move as his good construction would dictate. At the moment he is just puppy loose but with age and maturity one would hope he tightens up to complete the picture
2nd Green - Newtonians One Who Wandered
Stands well and is a very showy young pup but just couldn’t match 1st place on the move today. With time, training and care his movement should tighten.
3rd Kenyon - Movalian Play With Fire

1st Selby, Allen & Whitehead - Zilcan Captain Caveman
I found this youngster balanced and well-made throughout. Out of coat at the moment but what was present is of the correct texture. I found him to have the correct depth of rib, which was lacking in so many. I really liked his head with good turn-up, wide nostrils and well placed tidy ears. He had an excellent topline that he held on the move and he moved out well when viewed from behind. I would like him more positive in front action but when he focused and looked where he was going, he certainly moved better. A lovely showman, that presents a picture when standing.
2nd Barbi - Cilleine Last Wicket for Sparlero
A lovely partnership! Presents a typical picture when standing with coat of good texture. This youngster has a lovely head with good width, dark eyes and well placed nose. He couldn’t match the topline into tailset of 1st today and had to stand 2nd.

1st Selby, Allen & Whitehead - Zilcan Karate Kid (taf)
Presents a very smart outline and is lovely to go over on the table with everything where it should be! Although, out of coat today, what was there was of correct quality. He has good bone throughout and well-made fore and rear quarters. I liked his head with good stop and width to muzzle and prominent chin. A very showy young dog. I will be interested to watch him mature and observe the final picture.
2nd Conway - Stormjac Eric The Viking
A very appealing youngster with good head and construction, topped off with a correct quality coat. He presented a lovely picture standing and on the move but not having the overall showmanship of 1st place today.

1st Swinge & Price - Marquant Remember Me
A very well presented red rough male with an excellent coat and texture, shown in superb body condition. He has a distinctly masculine outlook, complemented by a head of good width and correct eye colour, giving a balanced and pleasing expression. He carries himself with confidence in the ring and is an expert showman, making the most of his many qualities at all times.
2nd Conway - Stormjac Shrek Wears Black
A well-constructed and typy dog with plenty to admire, but he was not quite at his best today and did not fully capitalise on his many strong points. With a more animated performance and greater ring presence, he would undoubtedly have shown himself to even better advantage.

A very smart dog with a lovely expression, good quality head and shown in correct coat and condition. I found him to be a quality youngster that presented a pleasing outline when stood showing himself off to advantage.

1st Mackay - Osthaen A Kind Of Magic BIS
A real quality b/t smooth that presented a typical outline being compact and so showy. He had a lovely head with good turn-up, width, lovely nose placement with wide nostrils and correct eye colour, topped off with neat tidy ears. I found him to be lovely to go over on the table with width and substance but nothing overdone, he was correct in fore and rear quarters which of course, when he moved produced sound action in both directions. He held himself to advantage on the move and when standing. Overall, a typical Griffon and one that I was delighted to award top honours to.
2nd Price & Burns - Marquant New Order
A well made dog with an excellent coat, but not at all happy today and not making the most of his qualities. He was shown in great condition and there is a lot to like!
3rd Blore - Movalian Firestorm

Two quality males!
1st Meaden - CH Beauborne Nadal at Topmead
A lovely male that is quality to go over on the table, having a correct head with all proportions being as they should be. He held his topline on the move and was just asking to win! I liked his showmanship and attitude which won him the class today.
2nd Spurr - CH Zilcan Gin Ricky JW.
A lovely male of good size and correct balance, he seemed a little perturbed today and therefore not the showmanship of 1st. Two top quality boys!

1st Blair - Adreeam Diamond In The Rough for Bellflows
A pretty youngster with lovely expression and shown in good coat. She has plenty of time to develop and there were some encouraging qualities to note, her overall attitude was willing and bright which was lovely to see in one so young, she was confident and put on a lovely performance.
2nd Hershaw - Beauborne What's On at Tremaloy
Another pretty feminine baby, with movement and carriage that is still developing. She had a lovely temperament and was willing to engage, both of these traits will set her in good stead for a future show career.
3rd Mackay - Movalian Diamond In The Dark

1st Mackay - Osthaen Scarlett Syphony RBB & BPIS
A very smart feminine puppy who was lovely to go over with correct head, ear and eye, she was well made throughout. To top it off, she was showy and confident. Movement was understandably puppy loose but she went around the ring with clear enthusiasm and plenty of energy. Two qualities so important and that will surely put her on the right path for a promising show future.
2nd McGill - Bjulaseta Honey Spring
A promising puppy of lovely type, she was well made throughout and another that with time, her movement will develop. She was well balanced and shown in lovely condition. I just preferred the overall presence of the 1st place puppy.
3rd Selby, Allen & Whitehead - Zilcan Monkey Magic

I thought the first 3 in this class to all be of admirable type
1st Fernyhough - Fennymore Ellie May at Sharnese
It is certainly a cliché but when I saw this young lady strut into the ring, I thought, that’s my winner and I didn’t, in this class, have any cause for disappointment. She won best bitch on her outline which she held so well when moving around the ring, but it was in the challenge for BIS where she declared she had received quite enough admiration for one day and became rather disinterested. I thought her lovely to go over with a typical head, with a definite stop. She had well placed nostrils and good eye colour. Her ear could be a little heavy for some but it would be fault judging to penalise her for such, as her other qualities shone through. In profile she strode out well and overall, she met my definition of being cobby and well balanced.
2nd Chapman - Hipster Xenna avec Cilleine (Imp BEL)
An appealing black rough of pleasing proportions. She displays balanced construction throughout, with no single part outdoing another. She has good head properties and is well made both fore and aft. I wanted her to stand and focus and shout at me to win the class but today, the 1st place had the edge for that final degree of effortless showmanship.
3rd Selby, Allen & Whitehead - Zilcan Granny Got Yagunshot (taf)

1st Gullon - Barnfall Viole
This female exhibits a feminine silhouette, leaving me in no doubt regarding her sex. She possesses a most feminine headpiece. Despite her refinement, she is supported by ample bone for her frame. She stood alone in this class, remained alert and showy, completing the picture with a correct and typical tail carriage that she maintained with great pride.
Post Grad bitch (5/2)
1st Fernyhough - Cilleine Quintella at Fernstaff
A bitch of substance and width throughout, the soundest mover in this class which earned her the first place. I would prefer her a tad shorter coupled for true balance but one to admire, she worked hard for her handler and was very attentive.
2nd Gullon - Barnfall Vanity
A bitch of ideal proportions who presented herself with style, though she did not match the winner’s level of soundness on the day. She was handled to her best advantage, demonstrating her many virtues.
3rd Wood - Delightbull Come On Eileen

1st Wood - Delightbull Lady In Red JW
A well-presented balanced and showy young lady! Not the biggest of Griffons but I found her to be the soundest in this class. She has a good neck, correct wide front and enough bone. She had good depth of rib and moved all out around the ring
2nd Blore - Movalian Burning Desire
Out of a larger mould than 1st but balanced nonetheless. She possessed a lovely topline which she held on the move and it flowed into her spot on tail set.
3rd Mackay - Osthaen Fire Will Reign

1st Gullon - CH Datiro Chickadee JW OSW
A very showy red smooth, she was well made throughout, having both the desired width and depth, she stands 4 square as her good construction and correct balance dictates. She was presented to me in excellent show condition. In my final shortlist for best bitch, I just preferred the head, expression and more cobby appearance of the winner.
2nd Hick - Datiro Tigger Point
A red rough of many qualities who for me, could not quite challenge the winner for that final degree of head refinement. She moved out well enough around the ring. While her profuse coat tended to hide some of her finer points, her underlying virtues were present, even if they were not immediately apparent to the eye. Despite this, she remains a bitch with much to admire.
